Birth of Rotary
Paul P. Harris was the ROTARY
founder. He was born in Racine, Wisconsin, USA on April 19th of
1868. It received the Bachelor degree in physical culture and
of Doctor in Laws at the Vermont University; in the Iowa University
obtained a similar doctorate and at the Vermont University also
received an honorarium title of Doctor in Philosophy in 1933.
It worked like Journalist, professor of commercial sciences, actor
in an amateur company and as “cowboy”. It traveled extensively
like salesman of a company that negotiated in granite marble in
the United States and Europe. These experiences extended their
horizon and came to be valuable for the early extension of Rotary.
In 1896 Paul Harris settled down in Chicago and he dedicate to
the exercise of its lawyer profession. In 1900, after having dinner
with a lawyer of a residential sector of Chicago it call his attention
that he stopped in several warehouses and stores of the neighborhood
to introduce him with the owners who were his friends. This experience
took it to think in doing personal some of its clients. Was as
well as solved to organize a club that united with friendship
and fellowship to a representative group of professionals and
businessmen. For 1905 already its philosophy had formed on the
commercial relations. Discussing the subject with three of its
clients: Silvester Schiele, coal dealer; Gustavo Loehr, a mining
engineer and Hiram Shorey a merchant tailor, decided to organize
with them the club he was planing since 1900. The 23 February
1905 was the first meeting of the club that gathering is commonly
regarded as the first Rotary club meeting and came to be the nucleus
of the thousands of Rotary Clubs existing today. This new club,
to that Paul Harris gave the name of “Rotary” because their meetings
were held in the commercial offices of each one of their partners
by rotation order, obtained the general approval and saw increase
