WHAT IS ROTARACT
Rotaract
Rotaract has evolved quickly in its short but dynamic history.
In the early 1960s, Rotary clubs around the world began to sponsor
university youth groups as community service projects. The 1967-68
RI president, Luther H. Hodges, and the RI Board of Directors considered
this club activity to have international relevance, and Rotaract was
approved in 1968 as an official program for Rotary clubs. The first
club chartered was the Rotaract Club of North Charlotte, North Carolina,
USA, on 13 March 1968. The second the Rotaract club Tacubaya ULSA,
in México city did it a short time later.
During the last decades, Rotaract has goteen to constitute an international
network of 7,300 service clubs present in more than 150 countries
and regions of the world. The 145,000 rotaractors, young men and
women with ages between the 18 and 30 years, serve to his respective
communities and extend the reach of his fiendships, professional
contacts and their understanding of the world.
Goals Rotaract has the following goals:
- Develop the professional and leadership skills
- To emphasize the respect by the rights of others, based on the
recognition of the value of each person.
- To recognize the dignity and value of all useful occupation
as opportinities to serve.
- To recognize, practice and promote ethical standards as essential
qualities for leadership and vocational responsibilities.
- To develop knowledge and understanding of the needs, problems
and opportunities in the community and in the international scope.
